DFR course
Hello everyone!
In case you have missed my previous email, a Diver First Responder (DFR) course is being run by Blackwater SAC (Fermoy, Cork) on the 25th of February. A qualified DFR can provide:
• Provide Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Administer aspirin
• Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Manage diving emergencies
• Provide oxygen and first aid treatment
In order to sign up for the course you do not need to be a qualified diver. The only prerequisite is to be registered on COMS and paid up for 2017. I strongly advise all members to take the course as it provides you with skills that can be useful even outside of the diving environment and can save someone’s life. You will also get a PHECC qualification which entitles you to register as an emergency first responder for your workplace.
If you are interested, please register on COMS, course number is 1535. The course will be run on a single day, starting at 9am. If you already have DFR, remember that it expires every 2 years therefore you need to recertify (this is so you can stay up to date with the new resuscitation techniques). The recertification takes only half a day and you can find it on COMS under course number 1536.
Also remember that course costs can be partially reimbursed by the club; if you provide us the receipt, your name, course and course year, we can refund you with a cheque.
If you have any questions please let me know, you know where to find my email.
Cheers,
Giuseppe
Diving Officer
